The Industrial Millwright program is designed to train students in various mechanical maintenance skills. Mechanical maintenance technicians work with various types of equipment across different industries, handling tasks from setup, installation, and commissioning to routine and preventive maintenance. This also includes troubleshooting and replacing damaged parts when necessary.
In the first semester, the program covers essential topics such as industrial safety practices, maintenance principles, precise measurement techniques, and the use of hand and power tools. It also focuses on developing skills in handling mechanical equipment, its components, and precision parts, lifting and rigging operations, metal fabrication and forming, arc welding techniques, gas metal cutting, operating industrial lathes, and reading engineering drawings along with understanding technical specifications.
The second semester emphasizes advanced skills, including machine alignment, vibration analysis, maintenance of stationary equipment (such as valves and heat exchangers), and rotating equipment (such as pumps, turbines, and compressors). It also covers troubleshooting and maintenance of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
